The world of professional athleticism naturally introduces elements and stakes that lay the foundation for a strong romance arc. And while the collective cultural obsession with Heated Rivalry’s television adaptation has turned new audiences onto the genre, sports-centric love stories are a category mainstay within the romance readership where hockey books occupy outsized shelf space and the rising popularity of F1 settings proved to be an early harbinger of the motorsport’s mainstream appeal. This conversation will explore how and why the subgenre gets points on the board, the role that formula and fandom plays in both forms of entertainment, and the broader implications for both industries.
